YMCA Carnival

On Tuesday night, the YMCA in Eagan had their annual carnival. Paul had to work in Maple Grove that day so he drove straight from work to the Y. The first thing the girls did was ride ponies! We were lucky to get there right when they were getting set up and were the second ones in line. Last year, the line was so long that they weren't able to make the cutoff to ride them.

The pony that Maria rode was named Bubbles, Bella rode a pony named Fredo (as in Alfredo sauce). They both loved riding them!

They also had horses there from the police force. Maria was brave enough to pet them but Bella was too scared.

They also went for a train ride, of course they didn't want to ride together!

They had two or three different jumpers for the kids to go in and that's what the girls did for the most part. Bella played a game where you toss rolls of toilet paper into a toilet - she made all three shots! She might be our future ball player :)

Trip to Mystic

Last Friday, Lola invited us to Mystic for dinner at the buffet. She also got a room so the kids could hang out and go swimming. We got there and ate right away - most everyone else was already done so Auntie Ree offered to take Lorenzo up to the room with them so we could eat and he could take a nap. After dinner, Paul & I took the kids to the pool (no, we didn't drop them off Uncle Matt.......hehehe) so they could swim. Maria & Bella had fun swimming with TJ and Anthony.

Bella ended up having to wear a waterproof bandaid on her forehead because on Thursday night (approximately six hours after her stitches were removed) she decided to place her fingers on either side of her cut and pull it apart. It started to bleed right away but not too much. I kind of freaked out because I really didn't know what to do. I called Lola who told me to put steri-strips on it but we only had regular bandaids and Paul was at softball so I had to make due with what we had at the house. She told me to push the cut together and essentially 'tape' the skin back together so it could heal. All the while, Bella was hysterical - probably due in part to my reaction to her doing it. Poor girl - she said "I don't even know why I did that" and then later when I was laying with her for bedtime she said "I'm so mad at myself for doing that". I reassured her that everything was okay and mommy was sorry for making her scared but that I had been scared too - I didn't want to have to take her back to the doctor. She was fine the next morning and the skin had pretty much healed back up but it will probably leave more of a scar now........ oh well!

After the kids went swimming, Lola watched all of them in the room while Paul, Tom, Marie & I went downstairs to the casino. Paul, Tom & I played blackjack for about half an hour or so, which is the amount of time it took us to lose our $50.00. Mari-Lou had written down her 'numbers' for Paul so he wanted to go play keno for a little bit. He ended up winning back most of the $100 we lost! Those are good numbers Lola!!!! Thanks to Lola once again for her generosity!

A Couple of Photos

Here are just a couple of recent photos of the kids that Paul took. Of course, he had to take two pictures because both of the girls insisted on holding Lorenzo - they love their little brother so much!

Roller Chic

Maria went to her first roller skating birthday party last night. One of her classmates (Marky) celebrated his birthday at Fun Zone in Woodbury and invited all of the kids from their kindergarten class - all nine of them! It was so fun to see all of the kids, we haven't seen them for nearly two months! Maria gave rollerblades a try but felt too unsteady on them so wanted to have rollerskates. Paul got her all set up and we made sure she could manage before taking off to a meeting. I went back to pick her up a couple of hours later and she said she had a blast and now wants to have a roller skating birthday party! We'll have to see when it gets closer to her birthday since she was saying she wanted an ice skating party too!

While Paul was getting her ready, I was catching up with the moms. One of the moms asked if Maria would like to be in Girl Scouts because she is going to lead a Daisy Troup, which will include all of the girls in their first grade class. So, I asked Maria if she wanted to join and after explaining what would be involved, she agreed. I guess that means we'll be buying a lot more cookies in the future :) hehehehe.

Bella's Stitches - Part II

Today we went to the doctor to have Bella's stitches removed. She, of course, was scared because she thought it was going to hurt. The doctor left the room to get the stuff to remove them and asked us to take off the bandaid - she started crying because she was scared. But when he came back in he reassured her it wouldn't hurt. I laid on the table with her and she sat very still while he removed them. She did great once again! He said they did a great job with the stitches and that she shouldn't have much of a scar.

The final result!

Maria's Last Day of Soccer

Last year, Maria started playing soccer through the city of W. St. Paul and she wanted to play again this summer. It worked out for her to play (during the day) since I was home on maternity leave for a majority of the session. I was talking to one of the coaching assistants, Nicki, and she said she remembered Maria from last year and that she was a lot more outgoing and 'aggressive' this year. I told her kindergarten did her good! They always started practice off with color tag - where either Coach Rainbow or one of the assistants starts off in the middle of the field and all of the kids line up on one side. A color is then called and if you are wearing that color, you have to try and make it to the other side of the field without getting caught. There was one time when Maria was the last kid to get caught - she was pretty proud. Coach Rainbow commented that she's a fast runner. She must get that from Daddy - mommy's all about the slow and steady :) Here are a some of the photos that I took:

Bella & Maria made some new friends this summer - Leo (in the yellow), Simon (in the blue) and Ollie. A couple of times after soccer practice we met up with them at Southview Park to watch the Summer Playhouse show. The show was put on by four kids - usually two girls and two boys. They would do skits, sing, perform magic and other fun things and would ask the kids in the audience to participate. The first time we went, I brought lunch and we sat and had a picnic while watching the show. The girls loved it! They also loved playing with the boys at the park afterwards!

Well, I just had to go and say that our life wasn't really all that interesting - and Bella felt it necessary to prove me wrong! The girls went with Paul to his softball game this morning and just as their first game was starting, Bella smacked her head while running under the bleachers (right after Daddy told them not to move from where they were). He called me at home and told me to come right away, that Bella needed stitches, etc. When I got there she was pretty calm but the minute I mentioned having to get stitches she got scared and started crying. Auntie Missy had come with so she could take Maria, Lorenzo and Gen back to their house while I took Bella to urgent care. We ended up going to St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee because that was closest to the softball fields where Paul was playing in West Bloomington. Urgent Care wasn't open yet so we went through the Emergency Room. Bella was very scared but Paul & I kept reassuring her that everything would be okay. We finally got in a room and they put a gel on her 'laceration' that would numb it up. The doctor came in and talked about options and said that the gel would take about a 1/2 hour to numb up the area. So, we hung out watching Disney Channel and Bella ate her ring pop. After a little while she said 'I'm not scared anymore!' But that was because she thought that was all they were going to do.

A nurse came in and cleaned up her cut before they put in the stitches. She was scrubbing it with gauze and Bella didn't even flinch, the medicine had done it's job! She started getting scared again when she saw all of the stuff for the stitches but I laid on the bed with her while she continued to watch Disney Channel. The doctor put in five stitches and again, she didn't even flinch - she did great. Paul & I were very proud of her considering how emotional she had been earlier. She keeps talking about how it didn't even hurt a little bit and she didn't even feel them tugging when they put the stitches in. She has to have the stitches removed on Thursday, hopefully she'll do well with having them taken out!

Getting stitches

Bella was proud of herself too!

Rookie Blogger

Well, I'm finally giving in and starting a blog! As some of you know, we used to have a website that I would update regularly but since that went away - I've been slow to commit to blogging for two reasons. First of all, it's new - and anything new takes me awhile to embrace. I have been reassured by other family members that it's easy so I'm taking their word for it and giving it a chance. Secondly, I'm not sure when I will have the time to update it! Our family has now grown to three, I just started back at work and simply put - life is crazy! Of course, I now check our other families blogs daily and always look forward to any updates they have made. I will do my best to keep you up to date but that's another thing, although life is crazy for us - it's not necessarily because of things that would be interesting to other people. I'll take a shot at making our day to day lives interesting for you to read about :) Wish me luck! Now if I can just figure out how to get pictures out here................maybe later!!!!
